FCB Media, 2016 CAANZ Media Agency of The Year, has today announced the appointment of Rufus Chuter to the position of managing director and Angela Spain to head of brand experience.
Chuter, previously head of media and strategy, and Spain, previously head of PR, Activation and Social, will take up the positions with immediate effect and will lead the award winning FCB Media team.
Commenting on the appointments, Bryan Crawford, Chairman of FCB New Zealand commented: “It is great to see Rufus and Angela’s experience and leadership ability recognised with these promotions and I look forward to the even bigger impact on the agency as a whole in the future.”

Rufus Chuter, biography
Rufus started his media career in Wellington, progressing to oversee the Starcom Wellington team. He has also held senior roles at Starcom MediaVest Group London and MEC London where he oversaw communication planning for Lloyds TSB, the UK’s biggest retail bank. Since joining FCB Media in 2012 he has progressed from General Manager of Strategy to Head of Media and Strategy across FCB.
Most recently he lead the creation of FCB’s unique Strategy team that brings expertise together from across communication disciplines. He is one of the most highly awarded media professionals in New Zealand, having won multiple local and global awards including three Best in Shows at the CAANZ Media Awards; in 2013 Campaign Asia recognised him as the number 1 media planner across Australia and New Zealand and the Big Won report ranked him the most awarded Planning Director globally.
A champion for media effectiveness, he is regular presenter at CAANZ Media Lab as well as an active member of the CAANZ Beacon Award Committee. Rufus holds a double first class degree in Social and Political Science from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.
Angela Spain, biography
Angela is an award winning communications practitioner and Cannes Lions & Spikes Asia judge with more than 14 years experience in corporate relations, stakeholder engagement, issues and crisis management, marketing communications and strategic advice. In 2006,
Spain became the youngest ever female to hold the position of General Manager in the New Zealand public relations industry at that time, a feat which saw her rapidly emerge as a leader in her field and in 2013 she was named as one to watch in Campaign Asia’s 40 under 40.
Spain is an advocate for public relations and experiential marketing and has trained students at the Auckland Business School, the Auckland University of Technology and Waikato University.
