for 2019 ORCA

David Shirley and Melina Fiolitakis have taken away both the Grand ORCA and People’s Choice Award for the 2019 Outstanding Radio Creativity Awards (ORCA) run by The Radio Bureau.

David and Melina’s campaign for Health Promotion Agency was commended by the judges for its strong, clear message delivered in an innovative way.

With over 300 individual votes, David and Melina also scored the majority of votes for their “Swimming Jeans” radio ad that was a part of their “Swim Reaper” campaign for Water Safety New Zealand.

Commenting on the win,  David Shirley, Senior Creative said, “Melina and I are blown away by the result. Both campaigns have been labours of love for us, so it’s really gratifying to get this recognition for the work. In Water Safety New Zealand and the Health Promotion Agency, we had two very brave clients. We came to them with these pretty wild concepts – a sociopath, actively trying to drown New Zealand’s teens and a memory removal service for drunk people – but they trusted us and came along for the ride. We can’t thank them enough for that.”

Having won both the awards at the ORCA this year, Melina and David have taken away $12,000 in prize money and have won their clients $10,000 and $5,000 radio schedules.

General Manager of The Radio Bureau, Peter Richardson commended the work saying, “It’s great to see creatives using the medium to its full potential by focusing on producing effective and innovative radio ads.”
